Thomas R. McMillan

Thomas R. McMillan, Sr., 78, died December 20, 2008 at Candler Hospital. He was born October 13, 1930, son of the late E.B. McMillan and Ann Marie O'Brien McMillan. He attended Sacred Heart until 1946 and then Savannah High School, graduating in 1950. In 1949, he joined the United States Naval Reserves and while attending Armstrong Junior College, he was activated to duty during the Korean Conflict on the flagship for the 6th fleet. After the conflict, he attended the University of Georgia. In 1969, he formed McMillan Adjustment & Appraisal Service and later merged with Crawford and Company where he remained until retirement in 1991. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, associated member of Savannah Real Estate Appraisers Society, member of the Blue Goose Insurance Association, Savannah Claims Association and the Hibernian Society. Mr. McMillan was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Social Apostolate. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire McMillan and sister, Betty McMillan Downing.

Surviving are his wife, Claire Kearney McMillan of Savannah; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas R. McMillan, Jr. and Therese McMillan; Stephen and Lisa McMillan;
daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bill McLean; Katherine McMillan, Patricia and Albert Komso, Jeanne McMillan; sister, Mary McMillan Godbold; grandchildren, Caroline McMillan, Claire McMillan, Thomas McMillan III, Grace McMillan, Katie McMillan, Ava Komso, Sam McMillan and Luka Komso.

Visitation will be Monday, December 22, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Jeremiah McCarthy, Celebrant.

Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
